The next meeting of the North West and North Wales Division of the FSF takes place on Sunday, January 18 2009, 1pm start (buffet at 12.30pm) at the Llay Miners Welfare Institute, The Ring, Llay, Nr Wrexham, LL12 0TH. At November’s meeting the division discussed Gam£ 39, football and the credit crunch, atmosphere and standing, policing and stewarding, and Team GB. New financial systems within the FSF were also discussed. These allow divisions their own kitty, meaning they can campaign on issue which matter to them.
Section 27 legislation allows police to move someone from a specified area for a period of up to 48 hours. No offence needs to have been committed for the act to be enforced: the legislation gives police the power to move on people who they say pose a risk of alcohol-related disorder.
The Football Supporters’ Federation is delighted to announce we have teamed up with the civil rights organisation Liberty to fight for the rights of football fans who have been unjustly detained under Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act.
We’re absolutely delighted that Liberty have recognised that the use of Section 27 is totally inappropriate and breaches the basic civil liberties of football fans. With them, we plan to take this issue to court and set a precedent – Section 27 was never designed to police football fans, and it never should be.
At present there’s very little you can do – which is why it is absolutely vital that this campaign succeeds. If you refuse to abide by the conditions of a Section 27, police can then arrest you.
In that case, we want to hear from you. If you’ve had a Section 27 served on you and had given police no reason to think you would be involved in alcohol related disorder, fill in our online form and email it to us. We will treat your information in the strictest confidence, and will not pass anything on to the police.

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has launched an investigation into Manchester United, following a complaint by the Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST). MUST submitted documents to the OFT in November on the back of numerous complaints from its 35,000 members and other match-going fans regarding the club’s Automatic Cup Scheme (ACS).

The police were able to take this action due to Section 27 of the Violent Crime Reduction Act of 2006.
Chelsea have agreed to drop prices for 16-21 year olds for their Premier League trip to Craven Cottage on Sunday, December 28, 2008, following discussions between the club and the Football Supporters’ Federation. Over the past week we’ve received numerous complaints from Chelsea supporters who pointed out that the club were not passing on discounted tickets which were on offer to Fulham’s fans. This would appear to be in breach of the FA Handbook which states visiting supporters should not be charged more than home fans for comparable seats. Notably the rule makes specific reference to concessionary tickets.
