And finally… Competitive Dad Syndrome

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

Competitive Dad Syndrome is a tragic illness afflicting many men in their 20s and 30s. Its cause can be attributed to the male’s weakness for overrating his own football abilities, "I could have made it but for a dodgy knee". Symptoms include the need to "meg" one’s own child or, in this case, hit a "blaster" into the very same net that your toddler son is "defending". Good job it’s only a penny floater.

And finally… fifteen seconds

Estonian side Paide provide us with one of the best And finally… entries in recent memory with this epic own goal. Somehow they put the ball in their own net despite having possession from kick-off. Top drawer stuff.

And finally… goal-line tech

84.7% of fans in our 2017 National Supporters agreed that introduction of the goal-line tech in English football had been a success. Pity then, Red Star Belgrade who have no such luxuries as this long ranged effort was not given. Shocking from the officials.

And finally… halfway decent

Everton’s new £45m playmaker Gylfi Sigurðsson got his Toffee career off to a bright start this week by scoring this ludicrous goal against Hajduk Split. The Icelander smashing a loose ball on the volley over the poor Split keeper’s head.

And finally… what does £15m get you?

We share this video without comment other than to say in 1996 £15m got you Alan Shearer. By 2017 £15m got you Chris Woods whose skills are on display here. Gulp. (Skip forward to 50s to see Mr Woods in action.)
