And finally… Emile Heskey on Rod Hull and Emu

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

Rewind to April ’89 and a shy little 11-year-old called Emile Heskey (or Emily, according to Rod Hull) finds himself on national TV facing the type of assault course familiar to any square-eyed, TV addicted child of the 80s. Unsurprisingly young Emile has pace and power in abundance as his team storms to victory, although he does struggle with a round object mid-race [insert cheap gag here].

Hat-tip to VideotapeFTW for the footage.

While Hull City’s fans might have expected the club leadership’s entire focus to be on the battle for Championship survival they have instead turned their attention to the media – banning local journalists and hitting out at The Athletic for “misleading gossip”.

Schalke 04’s new signing Benito Raman looks like he has some cobwebs to dust off if this pre-season kick-about against Oberhausen is anything to go by – as the young Belgian is seen scuffing his chance at an open goal…

And finally… digging deep

We regularly document the incompetence of professional footballers with And finally… but this week LA FC’s Mohamed El Munir shows us that extreme competence, with a fantastic recovering tackle, is just as memorable. His heroics kept the score down to 1-0, and LA would eventually come back to beat Houston Dynamo 3-1.

And finally… Skipping

Atlanta United’s Josef Martinez is And finally’s class clown this week by way of this truly imbecilic penalty. Luckily for him he redeemed himself by scoring a 92nd minute winner – but hopefully the Venezuelan has learned a valuable lesson about show boating.
