And finally…it was the Brest of times, it was the worst of times

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

And finally…visits Ligue 2 in France this week – where newly crowned champions Troyes lost 2-1 away to Brest, at the Stade Francis-Le Blé.  Brest hung-on to win the match, despite a) going down to 10 men and b) conceding this appalling own goal, courtesy of their 28-year-old goalkeeper Joan Hartock.

Sad news came from China this week that former Newcastle United midfielder Cheick Tioté had died from a heart attack aged just 30. During his 139 appearances for the Magpies he scored only one goal – you don’t need us to explain the backstory, just enjoy it once more. Rest in peace, Cheick.

And finally… fast-kickin’, low scorin’

The USA met neighbours Mexico in a World Cup qualifier this week. Finishing 1-1 the game got off to an excellent start with this fantastic long-range lob from Toronto FC midfielder Michael Bradley, who you may remember from a three game loan stint at Aston Villa in 2011. No?

And finally… Ronaldinho

It’s 15 years this week since Ronaldinho looped that free kick over Seaman’s head at the World Cup. That’s enough of an excuse for a link to the greatest piece of showmanship in a warm up ever. Take a bow, Ronaldinho. Amazing…
