Pre-season is a strange time in the footballing calendar – novelty trips, out of shape players, nonsense transfer rumours and pampered Premier League stars visiting unfamiliar territory. Wigan defender James Tavernier got a taste of that pre-season magic at Altrincham. He is not amused by this young chap’s contribution.

Pre-season event celebrates fan ownership and women’s game

On Saturday, the FSA took part in a double-header of games in Manchester and the south east that took place to promote our community-owned clubs and the women’s game.

Four fan-owned clubs competing for pre-season honours

The Brian Lomax Cup takes place every pre-season and celebrates the role of supporter-owned football clubs. The trophy is named after the founding father of the supporters’ trust movement, who sadly passed away in 2015.

The Brian Lomax Cup and Supporters Direct Shield take place each pre-season, with the two trophies providing an opportunity to celebrate community ownership by bringing together supporter-owned clubs from different parts of the country to compete for some pre-season silverware. 

Honours even in FSA pre-season trophies

More than 1,100 fans gathered at Clapton Community FC’s Old Spotted Dog Ground in east London last weekend to see both their men’s and women’s sides compete against fellow fan-owned FC United of Manchester in two preseason friendlies.
