Despite a new managerial and coaching team being appointed at Hull City, supporters insist they will still be boycotting their 3rd round fixture against Swansea City on Saturday.
In what should be one of the highlights of the season, Hull City host Swansea City in the 3rd round of the FA Cup at the KCOM Stadium tomorrow. However, large swathes of the ground are expected to be empty with the Hull City Supporters Trust, and other fan groups, encouraging City fans to stay away.
Hull City Supporters Trust say they are protesting against the continual mismanagement of the club, with the club sitting bottom of the Premier League. Thousands of fans have stayed away from the KCOM already this year and attendances remain low, with the relationship between the owners and supporters reaching a nadir.
Chair of Hull City Supporters Trust Geoff Bielby said: “It’s been hard asking fans not to go. It’s something we’re very reluctant to do. We have been criticised by many of the die-hard fans.
“I grew up on the FA Cup, I remember when it meant much more than it does now, so it’s a very hard decision to make.”
According to the Trust, only 3,000 tickets for the fixture had been sold for the fixture (as of Wednesday).
The Trust is also asking fans who would have attended the game to donate their match ticket money to one of two local charities instead – the Hull & East Yorkshire MIND branch and Launch Pad, a local trampolining club displaced by the Allam’s expansion of Hull City’s academy.
The FA, Premier League, EFL, FA Women’s Super League, FA Women’s Championship, PFA, LMA, PGMOL, Kick It Out, Women in Football and the Football Supporters’ Association will unite for a social media boycott from 3pm on Friday 30th April to 11.59pm on Monday 3rd May, in response to the ongoing and sustained discriminatory abuse received online by players and many others connected to football.
Social media companies must do more to stop online abuse. That is why this weekend we are coming together with English football and other sports and organisations, to boycott social media and demand change.
West Ham United supporters are boycotting food and drink at the London Stadium in a stand against price hikes introduced by the ground’s caterers.
The 2023-24 season kicked-off this weekend and with it the traditional Community Shield curtain-raiser. There was some controversy ahead of the Wembley fixture this year, however, after Manchester City fans criticised the FA and broadcasters over the late kick-off time.
