And finally… sportsmanship isn’t dead

And finally… is sometimes drawn towards the darker things in football – terrible fouls, diving strikers, that sort of thing – but let’s not forget that fair play hasn’t disappeared from the game. This clip warms the heart, see a genuine display of sportsmanship below.

And finally… best goal from the last 12 months?

Last week’s And Finally… showcased FIFA’s Puskas Awards, their top 10 goals of the year. But have they got it right? Give us a shout if you think they’ve missed any, here’s a few of our favourites from the past 12 months that weren’t included. See below.

And finally… What’s your Goal of the Year?

Everyone’s got a favourite goal and it often involves their team. But take a step back from club loyalties and there’s some corkers out there. Handily the top 10 goals of the past 12 months have been shortlisted for FIFA’s Puskas Award. Check ’em out below.

And finally… dream goal

We’ve all dreamt it – clean through, round the keeper, get down on your knees and nudge the ball across the line with the old noggin. Over in South Africa and SuperSport United’s striker had that very same dream… and the nerve to try it.

And finally… liquid football!

We’re not exactly fans of games being called off but we’d have to admit there might have been a case for it at this Lithuanian A Lyga game. Suduva take on Banga, cue hilarity (and a 2-0 win for Suduva).

And finally… women can’t play football? Wrong

Fulham’s Kasami might have hit the best goal we’ve seen in men’s football this season but here’s another strong contender for goal of the season already, courtesy of Stephanie Roach of Peamount United (League of Ireland). What a goal this is….

And finally… groom shows off ball skills

Last week Robbie Keane showed off his ball skills in the no pressure environment of training. This week Daniel Cutting does the same in a far higher pressure environment – while walking down the aisle as the groom.

And finally… Keane’s still got it

Across the Atlantic for this week’s And Finally as LA Galaxy’s Robbie Keane shows he’s still got it with a “circus-trick” goal. We know this is only on the training pitch but it’s still a pretty great artefact of just how skillful the best players are. Impressive stuff.

And finally… the magic of the cup

Magic of the cup? Jumpers for goalposts? Hhmmm? But enough of that. The FA Cup’s in its earliest qualifying rounds but we’d be surprised if any game sees a better strike than this doozy from ex-Arsenal youth Rene Steer of St Neots Town. Bosh!

And finally… it’s heading, but not as we know it

Slide tackles with feet are so passé in Argentina. This fella shows how they do tackling south of the equator; head first with an unhealthy disregard for bookings and broken teeth (three, if you’re asking).

And finally… parachutist drops in mid-match

Last year we featured a parachutist in Ecuador who crashed onto the pitch mid-game in spectacular fashion. We doubt this is the same guy but, nevertheless, some dipstick has only gone and repeated the feat at Salisbury City v Chester FC last week. Check it out below.

And finally… Brazilian physio flees pitch

A physio from Brazilian club Aparecidense had to flee the stadium and receive protection from armed police after getting involved in the game. Since it was in the last minute of a crucial play-off you can see why opponents would be a bit ticked off.

And finally… it’s a tough sport Down Under

We know Australian men pride themselves on being tough but this tackle would even be out of order in Aussie Rules. The commentator might think it’s a “solid challenge” but we suspect it might be worth of a red card. OK, make it two red cards.

And finally… 125 years of the Football League

The Football League is 125 years young and they’ve knocked up a nice video with some of the earliest known professional football footage including Newcastle Utd v Liverpool (Nov 1901) and PNE v Notts County (Oct 1904).

And finally… vintage Goal of the Month from MotD

A vintage goal of the month competition for And Finally… featuring famous efforts from Dalian Atkinson and Ryan Giggs. But our favourite is Altrincham’s Clive Freeman, for the Tony Gubba commentary alone: “Freeman! That’s what he can do!”

And finally… how scary are Serbian ultras?

You’re a Partizan Belgrade ultra and your team plays rubbish. Do you: 1. Leave early to beat the traffic; 2. Chant “sack the board” or; 3. Walk onto the pitch in total view of police and strip the armband from your captain.

And finally… the pirouette volley

There’s plenty of craziness in the world of football but sometimes we just like to feature a lovely goal. We’ve seen half-volleys, scissor kicks and the scorpion. Now comes the pirouette, courtesy Clément Grenier who scored a lovely, caressed volley for Olympique Lyon against Real Madrid.

And finally… head high tackle gets 14 game ban

Imagine a tackle so bad that the player gets a 14-game suspension. Brazil’s Smith almost decapitates an opponent at a Peruvian match between Alianza Universidad and Deportivo Municipal. Is he just angry at having the dullest name in samba history?

And finally…flipping idiot

It was only a matter of time before someone got hurt, wasn’t it? 19-year-old Brazilian debutant Maurides celebrates his 88th minute goal with a backflip, lands awkwardly and buckles his knee. From glory to ignominy, all in the time it takes to say, “Youtube hit!”

And finally…150 years of English football history in 150 seconds

Here’s a rather nifty little video courtesy of the FA which they showed at our Supporters Summit. It’s a run down of 150 years’ worth of English football history, all shown at a whippet-like pace. It’s worth two and a half minutes of anyone’s time.
