Last month, the UK Football Policing Unit (UKFPU) reported 384 domestic abuse incidents during the recent World Cup, the highest figure recorded for a comparable tournament, making up 17% of the 2,322 football-related incidents logged . Cue the familiar story: England play, men drink, women get hurt, football is to blame. That story made me cross. Not because the harm isn’t real but because the story is wrong in a way that helps no one, least of all the women it claims to speak for.

The Jacqui Forster Memorial Award has returned for 2026 and after receiving a strong list of candidates we are pleased to announce this year’s winners.

Safer Stadiums is a new project seeking to share the variety of experiences by women who are fans of the men’s game. It is run by Northumbria University, Loughborough University, and the Football Supporters’ Association.

Today we are delighted to reveal the eight supporters who’ve made the shortlist for the 2026 Jacqui Forster Memorial Award.

Last month FSA associate members Fulham Lillies held their second annual Game Changers event. Supporters met on Saturday 26th July, with more than 30 women from across the football pyramid contributing to a day dedicated to learning, connection, and women’s empowerment through football.

Marking International Women’s Day earlier this month we held an online conference for supporters in the latest part of our Women’s Voice in the Men’s Game project.
