European Away Fans Survey 2025-26
Once again we’ve heard reports from supporters travelling at away games in Europe about poor treatment from the host club and local authorities.
This time it’s Liverpool fans who, on a visit to Istanbul, were told to use buses put on by the authorities only to find them lacking toilet facilities or access to drinking water.
It’s not the first time there’s been issues in Istanbul either – in 2023 UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin apologised to Manchester City supporters over the failures of organisation seen at 2021’s Champions League final.
He said the governing body had “learned from past mistakes” in relation to finals but there are clearly still many issues which need to be addressed at group games.
Fan feedback
At a continental level the FSA is affiliated to Football Supporters Europe (FSE) who monitor conditions at the UEFA Women’s Champions League and the three UEFA men’s club competitions.
“Football fans often face significant challenges when travelling to watch their team play in UEFA club competitions, from poor in-stadia services and visa requirements to high ticket prices and aggressive policing,” says FSE.
“Thanks to the information provided by travelling fans through previous editions of this survey, FSE has been able to address some of the reported issues and promote good practices identified.”
We’d encourage travelling supporters to complete the FSE Away Fans Survey after every European away match to give feedback on ticketing, travel, policing, stewarding and all elements of the matchday “experience”.
All results will be anonymised but they help give FSE data which they can use in discussions with UEFA and other football authorities.
