Fanspiration: Bolton Wanderers Supporters Trust give winter hills firefighters free tickets

This is a story from the SD archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

To mark the magnificent work of some of the firefighters who tackled the Winter Hills fires, Bolton Wanderers FC Supporters Trust (BWFCST) have offered local firefighters the chance to attend a forthcoming fixture.

Hundreds of firefighters tackled the blaze in the hills surrounding Bolton Wanderers’ stadium when it broke out on 28th June. The fire spread across 7 sq miles (18 sq km) and crews made every effort to save property and vital infrastructure. Crews were only just beginning to be withdrawn from the area at the start of August.

Bolton Wanderers FC has also confirmed that they will match the trust’s offer to allow even more firefighters to enjoy the free experience.

Terence Rigby, chairman of the BWFCST said “We just wanted to try and show our appreciation of the work carried out by the firefighters and the volunteer services and getting some of them down to a match will, hopefully, let the BWFC fans, in general, add to that sentiment. We have approached the club to see if they can support the initiative as we would like to see as many there as possible.”

Once again, one of our supporters’ trusts is showing why they are set up as a community benefit society. Trusts work tirelessly to benefit the supporters of their football club as well as the surrounding community and this initiative by BWFCST is a wonderful example of rewarding local heroes for their work.
