Football United: Whitehawk FC event celebrates LGBT football

The Fans for Diversity campaign will be supporting a one-off game ahead of Brighton’s pride event next month to celebrate LGBT culture in football.

Hosted by Whitehawk FC at the Enclosed Ground the ‘Football United – A Celebration of Togetherness’ event will be taking place on Sunday 4th August.

A team of ex-Premier League footballers will be taking on a team comprised of LGBT fans, volunteers, activists and celebrities.

The ex-Premier League All Star team features ex-players from Manchester United, Newcastle United Brighton & Hove Albion, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur and the LGBT team is player managed by transgender writer and broadcaster Sophie Cook.

Fans for Diversity campaigns officer Maria Horner said: “Fans for Diversity helps those who may not think football is for them get along to the game.

“That’s why we’re proud to support and take part in this event at Whitehawk FC– it promises to be an excellent occasion demonstrating just how welcoming football can be.”

So far, the following players are confirmed as participating:

The match is a stand-alone event and a donation will be made to the Rainbow Fund after the match. Tickets are on sale now and priced at £10 adult, £5 concession, with free entry for children aged 10 and under.

Gates open at Whitehawk FC’s Enclosed Ground in East Brighton at 12.30pm ahead of the 3pm kick-off on Sunday, August 4.
