The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has issued travel advice for England football fans planning to attend the UEFA European Championships (Euro 2012) being hosted by Poland and Ukraine. UEFA will tonight reveal where England will be playing their first three matches of the tournament and potential fixtures should they progress to the knock-out stages.
Foreign Office travel advice will help the thousands of fans who will be making travel arrangements following tonight’s draw:
Foreign Office Minister Jeremy Browne says: “I am looking forward to supporting the England team in their Euro 2012 campaign in Poland and Ukraine in June. Foreign Office staff will be present in the cities where the team play their matches to provide any consular assistance necessary to visiting fans.
“I really hope fans can enjoy the games without having to turn to the Foreign Office for support, which is why we are providing travel advice now, to help supporters prepare. A little awareness of local laws could help people avoid getting into trouble with local authorities – and possibly missing out on the football.”
The Football Supporters’ Federation will also be stationed wherever the England team plays, offering support and advice to fans and working closely with the Foreign Office.
Kevin Miles, of the Football Supporters’ Federation said: “The Euro 2012 draw brings home how close the tournament is, and makes fans’ planning much more concrete. Clearly there are some challenges for fans at Euro 2012, including travel between venues and finding suitable accommodation.
“The FSF will be providing lots of useful information, both online and in our Free Lions guides, before the tournament, and as usual working closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to provide the best possible support to fans. As a starting point we’d encourage fans to check Foreign Office travel advice when planning their travel to the championship.”

Yesterday it was confirmed that the 2020 European Championships would be postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Following news stories last week that emerged after UEFA contacted ticketholders for Euro 2020 with a change to its refund policy, concerns had grown that fans faced missing out on refunds if games were played behind closed doors, or had their venue changed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Football Supporters Europe (FSE), of which the FSA is a member, wrote to UEFA requesting clarification. Today FSE have reported UEFA’s response:
