Free Lionesses Guide to Palma (Mallorca)

The Lionesses face Spain on Friday 5th June at Mallorca’s Son Moix Stadium – and an away win would secure qualification for the 2027 World Cup.

Kick-off is 9pm local time (8pm BST) and FA Match details can be found here.

Free Lionesses will be running a pre-match meet. Details will be confirmed in due course – please keep an eye on our social media for more details.

Ticketing Information

1,231 tickets have been allocated in the dedicated England section priced at €40 (approximately £35). There are no concessions and a maximum of six tickets per order (subject to availability).

We have been advised that any supporters requiring wheelchair-accessible tickets for this match should contact the RFEF directly via email on [email protected]. Please include details of your accessibility requirements and confirm that you wish to be located within the dedicated England section. All wheelchair-accessible tickets include a complimentary companion ticket.

Introduction to Palma

Welcome to Mallorca! To ensure you enjoy our city and arrive at the stadium with the best atmosphere, we have prepared this route that combines sightseeing, gastronomy, and, of course, a good pre-match warm-up.

Getting to the stadium

To get to the stadium, the most comfortable and football-friendly way is to join the local fans on the urban bus (EMT).

Line 8 (Direction Son Roca): If you are in the Bar Bosch/Borne area, you only have to walk 5 minutes up Avenida Jaume III to the Instituts stop (Stop 199)
Alternative: If you end up eating closer to the center, Line 8 can also be taken from its starting point, at Plaza España (Stop 2).
Destination: You need to get off at Stop 334 – Son Moix. The journey usually takes about 15-20 minutes. A single ticket costs 2€ (bring cash or you can pay with a bank card directly at the bus validator).

6.30pm-8:30pm: The pre-match warm-up! Recommendations for a last drink in the final km. These are some recommendations I get from local fans:

Local bars (500m from the stadium): Before heading to the gates, we recommend going to the area of Bar Coyunda or Bar Karma. They are the temples of many Mallorquinistas during the pre-match. Popular prices, lots of people in the street with scarves, cold beers, and perfect sandwiches for a quick dinner before going in.
RCD Mallorca Fan Zone: Around 7.30pm you can head over to the esplanade of the stadium itself (next to Mallorcafé). The club usually sets up a Fan Zone with music, food trucks, drink bars, and a great atmosphere among fans. (This point seems doubtful to work for a non-regular league match)
Based on your location in the stadium, you might have closer options at the roundabout including D’Presió Cerveceria.

Post-match:

Upon exit (around 11pm), the bus company (EMT) usually provides special Line 8 reinforcements waiting right outside the stadium to quickly return people to the center (Plaza España). Check this with the official information. See the EMT Palma – Official Website. The use of taxis/Uber after the match is recommended.

Transport in the city

Underground – Palma does have an underground Metro system but it doesn’t go anywhere near the Son Moix stadium so is unlikely to be of use to visiting fans.
Bus – There is a comprehensive bus service throughout Palma. Payment is made using the smart card reader at the bus entrance (remember to tap out when getting off). The bus service is the TIB which has a very good website www.tib.org. It can be switched to English and has a very useful route planner.
Taxi – The easiest way from the airport to the stadium are the taxis which can be taken from directly outside the terminal and should cost no more than 30€ (make sure the meter is on and set to zero or get a quote before leaving the airport). Taxis taken from the airport should be legit. Elsewhere make sure any taxi you take is official. Official Palma taxis are always white cars with a diagonal red and yellow stripe on the front doors. They feature a roof sign with the word “TAXI” and a green light that illuminates to show they are available.

Favourite bars

Lennox The Pub (Av. d’Antoni Maura, 22) – This is the most convenient option and the most integrated into the city center route. It is located right at the end of Paseo del Borne, almost touching the port. It has a fantastic and casual atmosphere, a terrace, giant screens, and quick options for a bite to eat.

Transport Connection (Line 8): Excellent! You don’t deviate from the route at all. From the pub, you only have to walk about 10-12 minutes, walking back up the Borne and Avenida Jaume III to reach the Line 8 stops (Instituts).

Shamrock Palma (Avinguda de Gabriel Roca, 3 – Paseo Marítimo) – The great classic of Palma. It is a huge venue with two floors, views of the port’s yachts, and a lot of atmosphere. It is perfect if you are a large group and are looking for the typical lively and bustling pre-match atmosphere.

Transport Connection (Line 8): Acceptable, but requires a bit more walking. It is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Line 8 stop at Passeig Mallorca. The walk uphill is pleasant (next to the Sa Riera channel), but keep it in mind when calculating your time. Another option is to take a 5-minute taxi ride from the pub to the bus stop.

Hogan’s Live Music & Sports Bar (Carrer de Monsenyor Palmer, 2 – Paseo Marítimo). It is next door to the Shamrock. This is the purest and most traditional Irish pub of the three. If your main goal is to drink a perfectly poured Guinness, eat a good burger, and be surrounded by scarves and sports screens, this is the place.

Transport Connection (Line 8): Same situation as the Shamrock. You will have that 15-20 minute walk to the Passeig Mallorca stop to catch the bus to Son Moix.

Things to do

The Cathedral (La Seu): Start the morning with a walk through the Parc de la Mar to get the best view of our spectacular Cathedral. Visiting the interior is highly recommended (opens at 10am), but simply getting lost in the surrounding cobblestone streets (the old town) is already worth it.
Aperitif in La Lonja: Right next to the Cathedral and before reaching the Borne, is the La Lonja neighborhood. We recommend stopping at Bar Dia or La Bóveda; they are legendary, traditional spots, perfect for having your first beer or vermouth with some tapas in a very lively atmosphere.
Paseo del Borne: This is Palma’s most elegant avenue. Take a stroll under the trees.
Lunch in the Center: At the end of the Borne, you will reach the Plaza del Rey Juan Carlos I (the Turtles’ Square, where we celebrate titles). The legendary Bar Bosch is located there. It is a Palma institution; if you want something quick but traditional, order one of their famous “llagostas” (special hot sandwiches) with a well-poured beer on their terrace.

Hidden Gems

Exploring Palma – If you have time to look around Palma before or after the match the bit to walk around stretches from the Placa Espana down to the Cathedral on the sea front. From outside the airport take bus A1 to Placa Espana, cross the road and walk down hill. To continue to the stadium, return to Placa Espana and take bus 8 or 9.
