The Government today announced the launch of its promised fan-led review. The Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport secretary of state Oliver Dowden told the Commons that the recent European Super League proposals left the Government with no other option than to act.
The fan-led review will be chaired by Tracey Crouch MP who was sports minister from 2015-17.
The Super League proposals were condemned by politicians on all sides of the House and Labour’s Jo Stevens MP, shadow secretary of state, called for the review to show “real teeth”.
“The FSA welcomes today’s announcement of the launch of the fan-led review and looks forward to playing a full and central role in that.
“The anger from MPs on all sides of the Commons showed that a handful of billionaire owners have misjudged not only the mood of fans – but the mood of an entire nation.
“For years football has appeased these greedy vultures by feeding them bits of meat but all it has done is heighten their appetite and make them stronger. Now is the time to stop that.”

The Government announced on Monday that it would endorse the findings of the Fan-led Review and implement all of its recommendations – including the establishment of an independent regulator.
The Government’s fan-led review of football is underway and, yesterday, its chair Tracey Crouch MP and panelists met with supporter representatives from the FSA’s Championship Network.
Yesterday supporters from fan groups in the FSA’s Premier League network gave evidence to the government’s fan-led review. The chair, Tracey Crouch MP, and the rest of the panel heard from a number of supporters trusts and fan groups about the big issues in the top flight.
