Football Supporters’ Association statement on the latest European Super League proposals.

FSA chief executive Kevin Miles said:

“The walking corpse that is the European Super League twitches again with all the self-awareness one associates with a zombie.

“Their newest idea is to have an ‘open competition’ rather than the closed shop they originally proposed that led to huge fan protests. 

“Of course an open competition for Europe’s top clubs already exists – it’s called the Champions League.

“They say ‘dialogue with fans and independent fan groups is essential’ yet the European Zombie League marches on – wilfully ignorant to the contempt supporters across the continent have for it.”

The FSA has led the charge against the creation of the ESL, working closely with our fellow fans across the continent via Football Supporters Europe (FSE) to whom the FSA is affiliated. FSE members commit to supporting the following principles, against which we will measure any future reform proposals.

1. Promotion and relegation based on sporting performance – from the bottom of the pyramid to qualification for Europe
2. No to closed leagues or franchise football – qualify on results, not through history or heritage
3. Weekends are for domestic leagues – protect fan culture, home and away. No live broadcasts on Saturdays at 3:00pm
4. We want competitive leagues – no to even more concentration of wealth and on-going domination by a fixed few top clubs
5. Domestic football comes first – protect the pyramid and cup competitions
6. Share the wealth – the money from elite football should be shared across the whole game
