FSF Awards 2014: Newspaper of the Year

The Football Supporters’ Federation Awards in association with William Hill have been announced, have your say and vote here. Below, we look at each category individually. Next up…

Newspaper of the Year:

• The Daily Mail – Regularly dividing opinion, with one of the biggest and most viewed web operations around, its popularity continues. Matt Lawton and Ian Ladyman lead the coverage. 
• The Daily Mirror – The Mirror has long been a supporter of the FSF and its coverage of wider fan issues such as ticket pricing and safe standing is second to none. It’s the leading red-top in terms of nominations for this award. 
• The Daily Telegraph – Featuring last year’s FSF Writer of the Year Henry Winter among its stable of top quality journalists, the Telegraph offers some of the best coverage around.
• The Guardian – With a real ear for fan issues, it’s no surprise to see the Guardian shortlisted. Let’s not forget its commitment to top-class coverage of European football either, with great copy from the likes of Raphael Honigstein and Sid Lowe.
• The Independent – Home to nominee for this year’s writer of the year Sam Wallace, and last year’s nominee Ian Herbert, the Independent has beefed up its football coverage in recent years and is reaping the rewards.
• The Times – With a team of top class writers which includes the likes of Alyson Rudd, Gabriele Marcotti, Oliver Kay and Rory Smith it’s no surprise to see The Times team pushing for Newspaper of the Year.
