Games of Remembrance: 2018

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

Supporters will be joining representatives of the armed forces in November to mark the centenary of the Armistice.

The ‘Games of Remembrance” will be taking place on Thursday 8th November between women’s and men’s teams from the armed forces at Meadow Lane and the City Ground in Nottingham.

As well as the two matches, the event will include fan-zones, entertainment, exhibitions, music and will be enjoyed by fans, families, VIPs and by the football community, including sporting legends.

General Mitch Mitchell MBE said: “Football speaks to many people, in many languages. At the heart of communities around the world is a football club, great or small. And in both the UK and Germany it is the national game and the Forces game too.

“Nottingham has such a significant footballing history with two great clubs so close together – we couldn’t think of a more fitting city to host the matches.

“The 100th anniversary of the Armistice deserves a special commemoration; and communities across Nottinghamshire have such an important role to play. We would like as many club supporters, families, schools, community groups and uniformed workers to join us for one, if not both matches.”

The Games of Remembrance have been organised by the Army FA Charitable Fund. To find out more about the games visit their website.
