Hillsborough witness appeal

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission wants to hear from people who gave accounts to the West Midlands Police as part of the original investigation into the Hillsborough disaster. The IPCC are looking at how WMP conducted its own investigation.

The IPCC said: “At this stage, we are only asking for brief information from you. We will assess your response and determine what further information we might need from you. We will keep you informed about our plans. Should our investigators wish to take full witness accounts from you we will consult with you about how you would wish to do this and what assistance you may require.

“While our focus in the short term is on those who did give statements to West Midlands Police, we appreciate there are many people who did not give accounts previously. If you fall into this category and have information that you believe may assist the ongoing investigations then please use the witness appeal form.”

The IPCC is working alongside Operation Resolve, which is the investigation led by Jon Stoddart examining the causes of the deaths of the 96 supporters, and the coroner’s team. Your account might contain evidence relevant to that investigation and the inquest.

If you require some advice or assistance when completing the witness appeal form telephone the IPCC on 0300 200 0003.
