It’s a political football
Posted on 23rd April 2010
With the general election fast upcoming the FSF has written to the Conservatives, Labour, Liberal Democrats, Plaid Cymru, the Greens and the UK Independence Party to ask them a series of football-related policy questions. We’ll be publishing the answers we get from them on the FSF website. You can find the FSF’s questions here.
The general election debate has actually seen politicians raise the topic of football with Labour proposing some very positive ideas around fan ownership.
Meanwhile the Liberal Democrats also back the introduction of safe standing which could well be a vote winner given surveys regularly show that 90 percent of fans do too. Safe standing is also an issue that the Conservatives have promised to review. The Guardian are running a poll on safe standing today as well, vote here.
With all this in mind there’s never been a better time to write to (or more likely email) your prospective MPs and ask what they can do for football supporters. You should be able to find your candidates on your local council’s website.
Feel free to forward the FSF’s questions on to candidates standing in your constituency too and let us know what responses you receive by emailing [email protected].
There’s less than a fortnight until the general election and with all parties desperate to impress, and the race looking tighter than ever, now is an absolutely fantastic opportunity to see what the candidates can do for you – the football supporter.
Make your voice heard.
