North West Division meeting this Thursday

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

The next meeting of the North West and North Wales Division of the Football Supporters’ Federation will take place this Thursday March 25th at 7pm. The venue for the meeting is the Waldorf Pub, 12 Gore Street, Manchester, M1 3AQ. The venue is only five minutes walk from the main Piccadilly rail station, and there is also car parking available close by. For more information and registration please email Ian at ian.lyon@fsf.org.uk.

The meeting is open to FSF members and non-members alike and up for discussion will be:

  • Finance in football – It may be too late for Chester City but what should the football authorities and we as fans do to help bring bad debt under control? Ideas for FSF campaigns locally/nationally.
  • Watching football is not a crime! – Following our successful Sit Down, Shut Up event in London why are football supporters treated differently from other groups in society? Go to Wembley for a pop concert and you can stand without fear of ejection. Head to a rugby league match and you can drink in your seat but try that at a football game and you’ll get a criminal record.  Why does the Crown Prosecution Service push for the most severe punishment in most cases involving football fans? Would this not be illegal if they followed this procedure with any other group in society? What can we do to help change this?
  • Divisional meetings – What types of speakers would FSF members like to see at divisional meetings? What types of events are preferable? Any ideas for future guest speakers – Famous faces? Speakers from the authorities? – and ways to promote these meetings would be welcomed. Divisional meetings are organised by volunteers, so if you think we’re missing a trick, let us know.

See you there!
