RIP Julie Beattie: Shots’ minute silence for fan
Posted on 7th January 2011
Aldershot Town will tomorrow (Saturday 8th January) hold a minute’s silence before their League Two fixture with Oxford United in memory of Shots fan Julie Beattie who sadly passed away on January 2nd at the age of 49.
The FSF’s deepest sympathies go out to Julie’s husband Paul, her mother, and the many other family and friends fortunate enough to have known Julie.
Aside from being a former club secretary and supporters’ committee member Julie was also the long-serving secretary of the Football Supporters’ Federation’s Southern Division and will be sorely missed by all those who knew her. Last season she was also voted Aldershot’s Club Person of the Year, something which she was very proud of.
“Julie was impossible not to like,” said FSF president Monica Hartland. “Her kindly nature and an inherent amiability belied a work ethic and steely determination which was never more apparent than when her beloved Aldershot Town was ejected from the Football League. Julie was always engaging in debate and, when volunteers were needed, ‘no time’ was never an option for Julie.”
Julie supported the Shots since her teens and became involved in their supporters’ club when the club reformed in 1992. Julie was very well known amongst Aldershot fans and it’s a tribute to her popularity that scores of messages have been left on the shotstalk fans’ forum sharing memories and expressing condolences.
RIP Julie Beattie.
