Where does football go now?

Ashley Brown, head of governance and club liaison at the Football Supporters’ Association, will be appearing in the third episode of the SIGA-Soccerex Webinar series ‘COVID 360° – Where does football go now?’ this week.

The event will take place this Wednesday 3rd June 2020 at 3pm (UK time) and you can register here to confirm your participation.

Other speakers:

  • Sir Dave Richards, former chairman of the Premier League, European Leagues Association and UEFA Professional Football Committee.
  • Theo van Seggelen, director at the world’s footballers’ union FIFPRO.
  • Umberto Gandini, president of the Italian Basketball League, former CEO AS Roma, director of AC Milan and founder of the European Club Association.

The call will be moderated by BBC News journalist David Eades, and takes place on the eve of the Premier League’s Annual General Meeting. How clubs are dealing with the mounting challenges posed by the global pandemic? What does the future of the game look like?

“Following the demise of Bury football had already started to realise change was required. COVID-19 confirmed what many already knew, that the game in its current form at many levels of the pyramid was unsustainable,” says Ashley.

“Without fans revenues have disappeared and clubs are struggling to survive. Football will survive, the crisis will force it to evolve and we have the opportunity to make it stronger, fairer and more sustainable in the long term. This is a reminder that football without fans is nothing, and engaging with them is key to its success.”

#ICYMI: Leo does Dallas

Inter Miami FC are through to the final of the Leagues Cup – an annual tournament between club teams in MLS and Mexican football – after a barnstorming match against Dallas in the round of 16. Messi and his new teammates scraped through on penalties after the game finished 4-4. Two of those eight goals came courtesy of the best/worst own goals we’ve seen this summer. A classic.

Independent Football Ombudsman – annual report out now

How many football fans out there know what the Independent Football Ombudsman (IFO) is and how the IFO can help? Not enough in our opinion.
