“Amazing generosity”: Exeter City Supporters’ Trust on fans and fundraiser

When supporter-owned Exeter City’s St James Park was hit by fire in mid-November the damage was estimated at £100,000 – with further costs incurred as the club’s next home match against Burton Albion also had to be postponed.

A big bill to bear but enormous credit to FSA-members Exeter City Supporters’ Trust (ECST) who snapped into action and organised a fundraiser which is making huge inroads into that figure.

Earlier this week the trust announced that almost three-quarters of their target had been raised with donations coming in from across the football community.

Further proof of the role supporters’ trusts can play came yesterday as ECST provided the club with additional financial support by loaning the club £200,000 to aid with cashflow ahead of the Christmas period. The trust will then have the opportunity to convert that loan into shares, thereby increasing their shareholding in the club.

Exeter City Supporters’ Trust: “We are working collaboratively to ensure we remain an outstanding community-owned club, playing football at the highest sustainable level.”

“The amazing generosity of our fans and the early certainty of these funds being available for use will be instrumental in ensuring that the ground will be ready for the FA Cup tie against Wycombe on 6th December,” added ECST.
