Free Lions – an announcement

We’ve got some sad news for you. As you know, Free Lions is produced by the Football Supporters’ Federation, and distributed free of charge to England fans. This is made possible by the generous support of the government, and over the years also of commercial sponsors and advertisers, for which we’ve been very grateful.

A combination of spending cutbacks and a difficuly economic climate has sadly meant that the FSF can no longer afford to produce an edition of Free Lions for every game. The cancellation of the Holland game disguised the fact that there wouldn’t have been an edition of Free Lions for that match, and we’re sorry to say there won’t be an edition for the home game against Wales, either.

We’ve made every effort to try to maintain the continuity, and we’re very grateful to those whose support has enabled us to keep going up till this point, but with regret we have to announce that there’ll be no more home game editions for the foreseeable future.

Free Lions will continue to appear at every away game as part of the FSF’s Fans’ Embassy service (we’ve prioritised away editions as feedback tells us that it’s the travel and guide information that is most valued), and we’ll continue trying to generate funding so that we can restore the home game editions as soon as possible. Until then though, it’s away games only.

Those who have paid for a Free Lions subscription will continue to receive every edition that does appear in the post; it’ll just take longer for your subscription to expire. And of course we’ll continue to provide all the info we can via the website at www.fsf.org.uk, and via the E-Lions email newsletter, so make sure you’re signed up for those (by joining the FSF at the link below, or if you are already a member by emailing [email protected]). We also communicate through new-fangled media such as Twitter and Facebook; be sure to follow or befriend us as appropriate.
