FSA statement: Euro 2020

Yesterday it was confirmed that the 2020 European Championships would be postponed until 2021 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

The women’s championship has also been postponed by European football’s governing body, UEFA. UEFA said that information for fans seeking refunds on tickets purchased for the tournaments will be published soon.

Chief executive of the Football Supporters’ Association Kevin Miles said:

“Football fans just want football back to normal in the same way everyone wants life back to normal, but that’s not an option as we’re faced with a huge public health crisis.

“The health and safety of football fans is a primary concern for us as an organisation – but football fans aren’t separate from the rest of what’s going on.

“Like everyone else we are the people who have parents in old people’s homes under lockdown, we are the people being laid off from work and we are the people struggling with the various different health threats.

“While many of us are missing out on a tournament we were looking forward to, we can’t separate ourselves off from society. This is a sensible decision and the only one UEFA could have taken.”
