GambleAware launch Euro 2024 campaign to help combat gambling harms

FSA partners GambleAware have today launched a campaign centred on research alongside findings from our national fans survey. The results highlight the fact three quarters of football fans are concerned about the amount of gambling advertising and sponsorship around football, with two thirds (66%) believing that gambling sponsorship in football should be banned altogether.

Further research by GambleAware has also revealed the majority of the public are unhappy with the level of gambling advertising in the media, with two in three (67%) saying they feel there is too much gambling advertising, and a similar number (66%) concerned about the impact the advertising has on children.

As part of their new campaign, the GambleAware Euros 2024 partner toolkit has a host of printable and digital assets available for fangroups and individuals who want to support GambleAware’s message, from copy, social media assets, videos, GIFs and other artwork.

GambleAware said: “The Euros and a summer of sporting events is an incredibly exciting time, but we also know it will be a time where more people need help and support due to the intense level of gambling advertising.

“Other figures in today’s research show those already experiencing harm from gambling are 40 times more likely to spend more money and time gambling as a result of seeing gambling ads, compared to those who gamble without any problems.”

“GambleAware have invested in developing some new content to amplify their messages, as breaking down stigma for fans is important in reaching even more people who need our support.

“This support also helps change societal perceptions of people who experience problems because of gambling and builds an environment where people can open up about gambling.”
