How to get sent off in a friendly

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

Friendly. The clue is in the word although someone forgot to tell Brazilian midfielder Hernanes who achieved the almost impossible task of getting sent off in his country’s midweek friendly with France. Hernanes, who signed for Lazio at the start of this season, almost decapitates Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema with a ferocious studs-up kung-fu kick to the neck. Benzema had the last laugh though, his 54th minute goal secured a 1-0 win for Les Bleus at the Stade de France.
