The clue is in the word although someone forgot to tell Brazilian midfielder Hernanes who achieved the almost impossible task of getting sent off in his country’s midweek friendly with France. Hernanes, who signed for Lazio at the start of this season, almost decapitates Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema with a ferocious studs-up kung-fu kick to the neck. Benzema had the last laugh though, his 54th minute goal secured a 1-0 win for Les Bleus at the Stade de France.

At today’s League Two play-off final Exeter City will face Northampton Town and, while it will take place in front of near empty stands, it’s actually a fixture that has special significance for supporters.
The next meeting of the EFL Network will take place on 19th September in London, and one of the items on the agenda will be the group’s representatation on the FSA National Council.
