You may be surprised to learn that Ryan Babel is still playing football and similarly (and pleasantly) surprised to see him taking the mick out of one of the most irritating parts of the modern game – feigning injury. After going shoulder-to-shoulder with Babel, Getafe’s Allan Nyom throws himself to the ground in comically over-the-top agony. Needless to say our former Liverpool and Fulham man was not impressed.
Did you think somersault thrown-ins were a thing of the past? Well think again, as it’s all the rage in the Iranian Premier League. Peykan FC deployed it to hilarious effect this week against Gol Gohar’s rather hapless looking goalkeeper.
There’s always been a certain something special about Brazilian football, and even when it comes to clangers they somehow manage to pull them off with more panache, too. This passage of play from Corinthians versus São Paulo has a little bit of everything for the discerning #ICYMI devotee – a ludicrously over-confident goalkeeper coming a cropper, an outfield player falling over for no reason, and some ropey finishing, all topped off with that trademark excitable Brazilian commentary.
Brest goalie Gautieur Larsonneur started 2021 off in eccentric style as he almost scored what would have been one of the worst/best own goals ever to grace the #ICYMI archives. The standard for the rest of the year has been set high.
Nobody loves a long-range effort more than us at #ICYMI, and this from Dundee United’s Lawrence Shankland in their game against St Johnstone is an absolute cracker, and perfectly judged. Not bad for an equaliser in a 2-2 draw.
