North West Football Awards – finalists announced
For the third year running the FSA will be supporting the North West Football Awards – an event celebrating the best and brightest across all levels of football in the north west.
Now in its 12th year, the North West Football Awards will be taking place at the Old Trafford cricket ground on 11th November to announce the winners in 17 categories.
The awards pay tribute to those that achieve success on the pitch across the Premier League, the English Football League and non-league game.
Awards include ‘League Player of the Year’, ‘Rising star’ and ‘Women’s Player of the year’. The event also honours supporters and volunteers, with ‘Best Fan Media Channel’ and the ‘Unsung Hero’ awards.
This year’s finalists include Liverpool’s Virgil Van Dijk and Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, who will go up against Manchester United’s Luke Shaw for Player of the Season Award.
In the Women’s Player of the Season category Fylde Ladies’ Laura Merrin makes the shortlist alongside Manchester United’s Katie Zelem and Manchester City’s Steph Houghton, with Liverpool’s Sophie-Bradley Auckland and Everton’s Simone Magill also in the running.
One of the organisers of the Northwest Football Award Laura Wolfe said: “The competition has been incredibly tough this year with a record number of votes. We are absolutely delighted to announce this year’s finalists.
“All those who were nominated should be proud to have made it to this stage with such a wide array of talent coming out of the region during the 2018-2019 football season.”
