PFA Fans’ Player of the Month voting opens

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

If you fancy getting on to the pitch and meeting your favourite player, check out the PFA Fans’ Player of the Month Award. Every month of the season, four fans who have voted for the divisional winners get the chance to present the award to the monthly winner on the pitch at a home game.  One of the yearly fan winners will also be invited to the PFA Player of the Year Awards dinner.

This month’s contenders from the Premier League are made up exclusively from the top three – Gerrard, Giggs, Lampard, and Ronaldo (pictured winning last season’s Player of the Year Award). Any United supporters – or people with Ronaldo in their dream team! – might have noticed he’s been a bit quiet of late, so it’s a mild surprise to see him in there. We’re sure Nemanja Vidić might be asking what more he has to do to get a look in following a record breaking run of 10 clean sheets. But we digress – don’t let us influence your decision!

In the Championship the form of Reading’s Kevin Doyle has earned him a nomination as has Swansea’s Jason Scotland following a cracking run of eight goals in eight games. They’re joined by Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Wolves) and Lee Grant (Sheffield Wednesday).

In League One Fabien Delph continues to win admirers, and he was on target in Leeds’ recent win over Brighton just days after the Yorkshire club said they have rejected overtures from a couple of Premier League clubs. December’s winner Neil Harris (Millwall) completes the line-up with team-mate Andy Frampton and Leicester City’s Matty Fryatt.

Millwall aren’t alone in having two players nominated though, League Two sees Bradford’s Barry Conlon and Luke O’Brien join Gillingham’s Simeon Jackson and Bournemouth’s Marvyn Bartley in competing for the award.

Voting for this month’s award closes at midnight on Saturday, January 31st.
