“Superb”: British Embassy celebrates FSA Euros work

The British Embassy in Berne has written to the Football Supporters’ Association to celebrate the brilliant work done by our teams of volunteers out in Switzerland who ensured travelling supporters had the best possible experience at the Women’s Euros this summer.

Our Free Lionesses team enjoyed a fantastic tournament capped off by watching their team defend their European title and take the trophy home in a dramatic penalty shootout.

Wales qualified for their first ever tournament and FSA member groups Wal Goch y Menywod (Wales Women’s Red Wall) and Cymru Women’s Supporters Group were out in Switzerland doing a great job in helping travelling fans.

“We are extremely grateful for all your efforts to ensure that our travelling England and Wales fans had a safe and enjoyable experience in Switzerland. Our consular team had zero consular issues to resolve, which is a testament to your hard work and openness to collaboration with my Embassy team,” wrote James Squire, the British ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein.

The letter was addressed to the FSA’s head of women’s football Deborah Dilworth, who runs the Free Lionesses service, and our collaboration with the FA meant that we were able to support England away fans even more so than in previous tournaments.  

Deborah said: “Euro 2025 was an incredible experience and Switzerland was an exceptional host. I heard so many different stories from fans that made their experience of the country incredibly special. 

“We made memories to last a lifetime and to lead a fan walk of 5,000 Lionesses fans ahead of the final will always have a special place in my heart. For the team to then go on to win the tournament was the cherry on top of a very special cake.”
