Take part in FSE’s ChoreoTrophy

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

Football Supporters Europe (FSE) has invited fans from across the continent to take part in its inaugural ChoreoTrophy, supported by UEFA. This is the first award for “fan choreographers” and it aims to encourage and pay tribute “to this great and creative part of fan culture in Europe.” The Football Supporters’ Federation is an affiliated member of FSE, the representative body for fans across the continent.

The sight of stadium choreographers and co-ordinated displays of “tifo” such as banners, confetti, or flags are more common on the continent that in the UK, although there has been a notable increase on these shores in recent years. With that in mind FSE is happy to receive entries from the UK too.

FSE said: “Week after week, millions of football supporters across Europe are making a huge contribution to the attractiveness of football as a global sport by supporting their team inside the stadia via creative visual and acoustic means of support. Choreographies and tifo have become an increasingly important means of expression for the support of one’s team in most countries across Europe.

“These supporters’ groups usually spend lots of time, energy and money to prepare and organise this support for their teams. It’s time to reward these football supporters for their commitment and to pay tribute to this great and creative part of fan culture in Europe!”

Eyes on the prize

The award has the full support of UEFA and, as a consequence, the prize is a pretty nifty one – travel, accommodation, and match-tickets for 11 members of your fans’ group to the UEFA Super Cup in Monaco (August 2012) where you’ll be handed the award. You’ll also receive a large canvas picture of your fans’ choreography to boot.

The FSE membership from 40 countries will select 11 entries from all the submissions received. The winner from those finalists will be selected by a combination of public votes on UEFA.com and from fans who attend the fifth European Football Fans’ Congress in Istanbul (13th-15th July 2012).

Fans’ groups can only submit a maximum of three different choreos for the award and all choreos must be from the 2011/2012 season. Applicants must support the FSE core principles as outlined in the choreo info sheet and must to be in line with the regulations of the respective clubs at local and national level where the choreo was done.

Deadline for entries is Sunday 20th May 2012.
