The FSF is 10!

This is a story from the FSF archive – the FSF and SD merged to become the FSA in 2019.

It’s now 10 years since the Football Supporters’ Association and the National Federation of Football Supporters’ Clubs merged to form the Football Supporters’ Federation. In that time the FSF has helped thousands of fans, grown to more than 200,000 individual and affiliate members, and had some pretty big successes…

Fans’ Embassies (England and FSF Cymru) – from Azerbaijan to Trinidad and Tobago the boys and girls from our Fans’ Embassies have done a sterling job keeping fans safe around the globe.

No To Gam£ 39 – the FSF led the high-profile national campaign opposing the 39th Premier League game on foreign fields.

Free Lions – the FSF’s England fanzine is going as strong as ever and has almost as many issues under its belt as Peter Shilton has caps.

Football Supporters Europe
– the FSF played an integral role in FSE’s formation. The pan-European supporters’ body now has members in 40 countries and offers a united voice across the continent.

Safe Standing Campaign – there’s been more movement in the past 12 months on this than the previous 12 years. Aston Villa and the SPL now back a trial.

Policing and Stewarding work – the FSF helps hundreds of fans every year with complaints from the trivial to the tragic.

FA Council representation – For the first time in history fans were granted a seat on the FA Council. FSF chair Malcolm Clarke took that place where he represents the FSF, Level Playing Field, and Supporters Direct.

Section 27 – the FSF helped scores of Stoke City supporters to almost £200,000 in compensation after they were wrongly expelled from Greater Manchester thanks to incorrectly used Section 27legislation. It served as a warning to other forces and earned a JUSTICE/Liberty Human Rights 2009 award nomination.

The FSF’s Football Writers Awards – rewarding the best in amateur and professional writing – the Awards continue to grow, watch out Oscars…

The Football Supporter (tfs) – 27 issues of top-class fan writing. Sadly the digital age caught up with tfs and, with a heavy heart, the magazine was folded so that additional time and money could be invested in our online presence. More on that in the coming months.

Here’s to another 10 years (and the rest).
