We want your views on three up, three down
Earlier this month, the 72 clubs which make up the National League wrote to the board of the EFL demanding an increase in the number of promotion and relegation places as part its ‘3UP’ campaign – and we are consulting fans for their views on this proposal.
The change, if implemented, would mark the first change in the promotion and relegation spaces between the EFL and non-league for decades.
Since 2003, two clubs have been promoted from the National League to League Two, with two clubs heading in the opposite direction into the fifth tier of English football, and is the only step in the top tiers of English football that doesn’t currently have at least three promotion spaces.
The unanimous request from the National League’s clubs came following the league’s EGM on January 30th, and calls on the EFL to schedule a vote on three up, three down at the EFL AGM in June.
What does the FSA think?
Supporters value the pyramid we have in English football, and the opportunity for clubs to rise through the Leagues is an integral part of the supporter experience – we can all dream.
How that structure is protected and enhanced is a key concern for all fans, and often it is supporters who are best able to take the perspective of what is good for the game as a whole.
We will ensure the views collected in this consultation are fed into any consideration of changes – be it the EFL, the National League or the FA, football authorities should take account of the views of supporters.
