WSL Awards: Supporters recognised

At this week’s annual Women’s Super League awards supporters were recognised for their contribution to the women’s game and Brighton fan Jo Davis was crowned “Fan of the Year”.

Jo is a member of the Brighton and Hove Albion Supporters Club, attending every home and away game for the women’s and men’s team.

Also a member of the club’s fan advisory board (FAB), Jo has been on working groups focusing on match day experience, community, the WSL and equality, diversity and inclusion.

As well as that, she is also an ambassador for the Proud Seagulls, the LGBTQI+ supporters group for the Albion.

Recently, the South Coast side announced their plans to be the first side in Europe to create a purpose built women’s football stadium. During this process, Davis has used media opportunities to advocate for the club’s commitment to a dedicated women’s stadium.

After watching her first Albion game in the 70s at the old Goldstone ground, she became hooked and has never looked back. In the 90s, she joined as a player, where she played in goal.

This year was Davis’ second year being nominated for this prestigious award, and her first time winning.
